Crew Expectations & Onboard Lifestyle
I (Magnús) am the captain and engineer of the yacht. This is a private vessel, not used for business or charter. It is simply my way of life. The plan for the coming season is a long westbound journey: departing from Malta and following the northern Mediterranean coastline all the way to Alicante. Along the way we will pass Sicily, southern Italy, the Amalfi and Naples region, the Tuscan coast, Liguria, Monaco, the French Riviera, Marseille, the Catalan coast and finally Spain’s eastern shores.
The focus is not on speed, but on relaxed coastal cruising, choosing safe anchorages and enjoying nature, culture, and the sea. I truly enjoy having good people around me to share this experience with.
What I Expect From My Crew
I appreciate crew members who are clean, tidy, well‑mannered, discreet, easy‑going, enthusiastic, fit and healthy, friendly, organised, respectful, trustworthy, and good communicators. A willingness to learn, to help, and to follow instructions when needed is important. A positive mindset, polite behaviour and open‑mindedness are all valued. Crew should be comfortable with cooking, cleaning, helping with basic tasks, and must not bring pets onboard.
Life Onboard
Sometimes we may have a cook. If not, cooking duties are shared fairly. I prefer a simple and healthy diet onboard, so we will buy food that suits everyone. Crew members help with light work such as assisting with cooking, general cleaning, polishing parts of the boat, and acting as deckhand when leaving or entering harbours or mooring. When anchored, a rotating night watch is required.
There will be plenty of time for swimming, sunbathing, relaxing and enjoying the water toys we bring along. This voyage is meant to be peaceful and enjoyable, not rushed.
Cabins & Facilities
All beds come with fresh linen. A washing machine and dryer are available onboard. Crew may or may not have a private cabin depending on how many people are onboard at any given time. Sometimes we may need to share the crew cabin, especially if guests, friends or family join us for short stays.
Personal Items
You should bring your own personal items, including cosmetics, toiletries and a toothbrush. You must bring a good mood — that part is mandatory. I can usually provide anything else you might need except personal belongings.
Fitness, Yoga & Personal Space
If you like to work out, meditate or do yoga, there are several suitable places around the boat. Feel free to find a spot that works for you. The atmosphere onboard is friendly and calm, and everyone should feel welcome to enjoy their personal routines.
Important Safety Note
When leaving or entering a harbour, anchoring, or mooring to a buoy, it is mandatory to follow the captain’s instructions. This is for the safety of the vessel and everyone onboard. (You are still allowed to criticise the captain afterwards.)
About the Voyage
The plan is to cruise westwards from Malta, past Sicily, along the Italian coast, continuing through Liguria, Monaco and the French Riviera, and then onward along the Spanish coast until reaching Alicante. I am happy to teach all aspects of the boat and its systems along the way — sharing knowledge is something I enjoy.
FAST is a non‑alcoholic and non‑smoking boat.
